That time again ...

1/11/2015

... when I am, in equal measures, inspired and frustrated. Inspired by the beauty surrounding me and frustrated by my failure to keep the web-site up to date! This was the glorious Hinchingbrooke Country Park this afternoon.

Fabulous weekend in North West Norfolk. I was in the right place at the right time to capture some beautiful sunsets and sunrises! Great walks, wine, food and friends. And not forgetting the beach huts at Wells. But something new on his trip ...  weathervane one-upmanship.

Inspiration

3/9/2014

What happened to the weekly blog? Turned to Lucy for inspiration today and guess what... it worked!

A lovely evening light, a tennis ball and Lucy...

So inspired that I renewed both my Weebly and Zenfolio accounts. Check out www.maltingsart.com. And blog returns from now... promise to self!

Reportage

21/7/2013

I haven't really tried any reportage or photojournalism in terms of style so was keen to see if I could capture some 'events' from a photographic perspective. My favourite charity, Magpas Helimedix, is often involved in a whole range of events so there is plenty of range and opportunity - and it gets more photos for the charity to use.

So here is the first of many....

I had my Canon 5D Mk III with a 70 - 300 mm f/4-5.6 L lens so, unlike those who were a bit closer, managed to avoid the champagne spray when these five guys completed their gruelling charity cycle ride!

Island Hall

This was a weekend which went from a high paced and difficult un-anticipated night shift to serenity and peace (not to mention tea and cake) at the lovely Island Hall open day in Godmanchester. Must try harder to get out and take more pictures! Promise to self: a weekly picture blog from now on...

Namibia: Eye - to - Eye

I've now managed to add a selection of wildlife photographs to compliment (? balance) the landscapes. I've added these to a new section of the website called the Travel Gallery.

This little minx was one of a pride that moved into the Ongava Tented Camp one night and kept me awake with a combination of excitement and fear! The adults roared away but also stayed away. The kids however... that's a different story!

Namibia: Landscapes

Ok, it took a little longer than I anticipated but I finally finished processing most of the landscape photographs I took in Namibia last year. I've uploaded these into a new gallery. RAW processing has been a learning curve (and will be for some time I suspect). Having messed around with Photoshop Elements and Lightroom, Canon's Digital Photo Professional software (which came free with the camera) turned out to be the best in the end... ho hum

This is one of the remarkable giant dunes near Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft Park. If you look on google images you'll see how irresistible they are - this landscape is probably the most photographed in Africa. Now, for the wildlife photographs ...

Ely Cathedral (www.elycathedral.org) is truly extraordinary. If you get the chance, take the tours up the Octagon and the West Tower to really get a sense of scale. The Octagon, built in the 1320's, is a masterpiece of medieval engineering. I took these photographs using the in-camera HDR function on the 5D Mk III on the recent Experience Seminars Interior Photography Practical Workshop. Not your average interior!

A very chilly Norfolk weekend

Minus 13.
That's ridiculous.
It was ridiculous.
Only managed a few shots in the walk from Wells to Holkham but the theme of the weekend was definitely cold!
Luckily, it was the first open day of the year for Holkham Estate and the deerpark provided some respite from the wind.
Nothing for it but to retreat to the pub....

A teaser from the Lakes: Tom Gill flowing from Tarn Hows to Yew Tree Tarn. The weather wasn't the best but for February in the Lakes it was still pretty amazing!
